Travis Kelce Credits Taylor Swift With NFL Retirement Decision…
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has decided he will not retire from the NFL following a disappointing Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He plans to return for his 13th professional season in 2025.
Kelce made the announcement during the Thursday, Feb. 27 edition of “The Pat McAfee Show” on ESPN.
“I’m coming back for sure,” Kelce wrote in a text to McAfee. “Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and with how I got the guys ready for battle. I can’t go out like that!”
After telling the world of his plans to return to the gridiron, Kelce referenced his girlfriend Taylor Swift and her work as being an inspiration to him in the decision he made on his career.
The only way you can find yourself in the light is to find yourself in the dark first,” Kelce told his brother Jason Kelce during their “New Heights” podcast, which went live Thursday shortly after McAfee broke the news.
“I just listen to Taylor’s music. She has something for everything.”
Kelce is a three-time Super Bowl champion who has played in the NFL’s biggest game five times, all alongside star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Kelce is all but a lock for the Hall of Fame when he does decide to retire. He has amassed 10 Pro Bowls and seven All-Pro selections on the strength of 1,004 career receptions for 12,151 receiving yards and 77 touchdowns in regular-season action. His statistics in the postseason make him one of the most prolific playoff pass catchers in NFL history.
