Aaron Hernandez’s widow outraged with Tom Brady Roast jokes about late NFL player
The former partner of the late Aaron Hernandez has hit out at Tom Brady’s comedy roast for openly mocking the former NFL player in a series of “cruel” jokes. His ex-fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, has taken aim at those who decided to tell controversial jokes about Hernandez following his death.
The former New England Patriots player was a team-mate of Brady’s for two seasons after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. But off-field issues concerning his private life spilled over into his football career, and he was later cut by the Patriots.
He had been serving a life sentence in prison without parole for the first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd. That was until it was announced on April 19, 2017, that Hernandez had died at the age of 27.
And with several jokes referring to his death in the ‘Tom Brady Roast’, which aired on Sunday on Netflix, Jenkins has been left disappointed with how he was the target of their humor.
“It’s sad that I’m trying to raise my children in such a cruel world,” she told TMZ.
Shayanna made the point that, while Hernandez is gone and many people have negative opinions about him, their 11-year-old daughter has to bear the brunt of criticism about her father.
The deceased NFL player’s name cropped up on a number of occasions, with Brady one of those to mention him.
Nikki Glaser made a joke about Aaron and a ring around his neck, while his ex-Patriots teammate Julian Edelman made a hanging reference too.
What happened to Aaron Hernandez?
During the 2013 offseason, Hernandez was arrested and charged for the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional player who was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancée.
He was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2015 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center.
Days after being acquitted of the double homicide of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, Hernandez was found dead in his cell. It was later confirmed by the Coroner that he had died by suicide while behind bars.
