Chicago Bears Fans Should Be Worried Following The Latest Report On Rookie QB Caleb Williams
2024 first overall pick Caleb Williams reportedly had a rough day during Chicago Bears practice on Thursday.
Caleb Williams is in the early stages of practicing with his new teammates. Apparently, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner and former USC Trojans star had a difficult outing during offensive drills today.
Nicholas Moreano of CHGO Bears reports that Williams struggled with his accuracy and almost threw multiple interceptions. In 7-on-7 drills, the 22-year-old completed only three pass attempts and almost threw a pick to Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson, Moreano added.
However, Moreano pointed out that rookie Rome Odunze and veteran star Keenan Allen weren’t part of the drills, and that offensive linemen Nate Davis and Darnell Wright didn’t practice. So read into Williams’ struggles as you will.
It’s also one of Williams’ first practice sessions as a professional, so it’s way too early for Bears fans to start worrying. He only turned pro a month ago and needs plenty of time to get his feel for the Chicago offense.
In his final season at USC, Caleb Williams completed 68.6 percent of his pass attempts for 3,633 yards and 30 touchdowns against five interceptions to go along with 11 rushing scores.
Caleb Williams Is In a Spot To Succeed Right Away
Thanks to the Panthers’ generosity in giving up the top pick to Chicago, Williams is entering a much better situation compared to most rookie quarterbacks. This team finished 7-10 in a difficult NFC North last year, and yet there’s plenty of room for Matt Eberflus’ group to improve.
Williams joins a Chicago offense consisting of perennial 1,000-yard wideout Keenan Allen, superstar DJ Moore, the promising Rome Odunze and two quality running backs in D’Andre Swift and Khalil Herbert.
With all of that talent around him, Williams could easily piece together one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history. And it’s not a stretch to believe that he could take Chicago to the postseason in year one.
