Exclusive: What Has Happened To BJ Thompson After His Cardiac Arrest

Last Thursday, Kansas City Chiefs defensive end BJ Thompson suffered a cardiac arrest during the team’s training session. Fortunately for Thompson, the Kansas City Chiefs’ medical staff was quick and effective with the way they handled an incrdibly complicated situation. On thursday, a member of the staff did mention that the player was still unconscious but he was stable and his vitals were optimal. The player’s family was only asking for people to pray for BJ and we finally got some news about his health on Friday. Kansas City Chiefs fans were sending their best wishes for hours and the team was finally able to offer an update on Thompson. It was after noon.

BJ Thompson has woken up

Pretty much everybody in the NFL community was shocked by the situation, many expressed their wishes for BJ to be okay in public fashion. The latest from Tom Pelissero is that BJ Thompson has finally woken up from the incident and hisvitals are stable. He confirmed that the player’s prognosis is posisitve and he will get a full recovery. After the incident, the Chiefs cancelld team activities completely but today’s news givesthem hope they will have BJ back soon. The Super Bowl champion will keep recovering from this scare and eventually evaluate when he can return to activity.

BJ Thompson didn’t just have a cardiac arrest, he also suffered a seizure but Chiefs vice president of sports medicine and performance Rick Burkholder is the one who broke the good news. This is what he told reporters about BJ Thompson’s health: “He’s awake and he’s alert. He’s headed in the absolute right direction. Our players, our security staff, everybody involved, coaches and staff, they were phenomenal in handling the crisis.” Mandatory minicamp at the Kansas City Chiefs is scheduled to start on Tuesday. Will BJ make it to this camp?
