Hugh Jackman’s Iconic Wolverine Suit Brings Crew Members to Tears on Set of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’
Hugh Jackman, renowned for his portrayal of Wolverine, recounted a touching moment on the set of the upcoming film “Deadpool & Wolverine” during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on July 23. The 55-year-old actor revealed how the crew reacted emotionally when he appeared in Wolverine’s classic yellow-and-blue suit, a nod to the superhero’s original Marvel Comics attire.
“For 24 years, people have been talking about [the suit]. It’s one of the first things [Ryan Reynolds] said to me,” Jackman shared with Fallon. “I said, ‘I want to do it,’ and he goes ‘We’re going to do the yellow and blue.’”
Jackman admitted he initially had reservations about how the traditional suit would be received, but the atmosphere on set was palpably reverent when he first donned it. “It was just a hush. And it was one guy there, Billy Lawless, whose Ryan’s dresser, he started to cry,” Jackman recalled. “His kid’s name is Logan, just so you know. And he goes, ‘This is the best day of my life.’”
The emotional response from crew members was not isolated to Lawless. Wendy Jacobson, an executive producer on the film, also described the profound impact of Jackman appearing in the iconic costume. “Hugh walking out in the yellow and blue, I mean, there were grown men sobbing on the set,” Jacobson remarked in a recent interview with HeyUGuys. “So we knew it was a very special thing.”
During his conversation with Fallon, Jackman continued to extol the virtues of the yellow-and-blue suit, emphasizing its visual appeal and the challenges it posed. “It’s the best. It looks so good, it feels so good — except when you’re urinating, it does not feel good,” he humorously quipped. “It’s like a labyrinth getting there.”
“Deadpool & Wolverine,” slated for release on July 26, marks Jackman’s return to the role of Wolverine since 2017’s “Logan,” which concluded his tenure as the iconic mutant. In this film, Deadpool encounters an alternate-universe version of Wolverine, played by Jackman, leading to an unlikely partnership to save their respective worlds.
The film’s blend of action and humor, combined with the nostalgic resonance of seeing Jackman in the classic Wolverine costume, has generated significant anticipation among fans and industry insiders alike. As Jackman prepares to reprise his beloved role, his portrayal promises to deliver both heartfelt moments and thrilling action sequences, cementing Wolverine’s enduring legacy in cinematic history.
